Why carry a gun?

Somebody sent me this.  Wish I had written it.

Why Carry a Gun?

I don’t carry a gun to kill people.
I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

I don’t carry a gun to scare people.
I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m paranoid.
I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m evil.
I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don’t carry a gun because I hate the government.
I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m angry.
I carry a gun so that I don’t have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.

I don’t carry a gun because I want to shoot someone.
I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don’t carry a gun to make me feel like a man.
I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.

I don’t carry a gun because I feel inadequate.
I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.

I don’t carry a gun because I love it.
I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

Police protection is an oxymoron.  Free citizens must protect themselves.
Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.

Personally, I carry a gun because I’m too young to die and too old to take a whoopin’

“Gun free” England 4 times more violent than USA

According to crime statistics reported by The London Telegraph (UK is violent crime capital of Europe, 02 July 2009), the “gun-free” United Kingdom (UK) is 4 times more violent than the USA.  According to the Telegraph:

… there are over 2,000 crimes recorded per 100,000 population in the UK, making it the most violent place in Europe.

Austria is second, with a rate of 1,677 per 100,000 people, followed by Sweden, Belgium, Finland and Holland.

By comparison, America has an estimated rate of 466 violent crimes per 100,000 population.

France recorded 324,765 violent crimes in 2007 – a 67 per cent increase in the past decade – at a rate of 504 per 100,000 population.

Note that France didn’t even make the top 6 in Europe, yet their violent crime rate is still greater than ours.  Entire article here.

I just remembered that it was the UK’s program to confiscate guns from law-abiding citizens that caused me to become a lifetime member of the NRA, some 15 years ago.

Connecticut shootings pale in comparison with Chicago

Will gun control reduce violence against school-children?  We were all horrified by shootings in Connecticut that left 26 dead.  We were indignant when the President of the United States used this tragedy to promote his own leftist political agenda.  And we are fearful of the violence that will descend upon all of us if Pres. Obama and his friends overturn the 2nd Amendment.

Of course, the people who work hardest to take away our right of self-protection (Hollywood leftists, politicians, etc.) are the people who live in gated communities and surround themselves with armed guards.  They don’t have to worry about home invasions.  What do they care about common folk like us?

A few facts to consider:

  1. Chicago criminals, protected by some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country, shot 458 school-age children in 2012, killing 62 of them (source).  Another report says that 250 school-children have been killed in Chicago in 3 years (source).
  2. Anders Behring Breivik killed 69 people in a single 2011 incident in Norway, which has very restrictive gun laws.  Nobody present was able to shoot back.
  3. When selecting the target for his shooting rampage in Aurora, Colorado, gunman James Holmes selected the Cinemark theatre complex because it was the only one that banned guns.  Nobody present was able to shoot back (source).  One nearby theatre boasted “Colorado’s largest auditorium,” certainly a draw for a crazy man trying to kill as many people as he could, but they allowed permitted concealed handguns.
  4. People in Russia can tell you what gun control has done to them.  They say “Never give up your guns.

Never give up your guns.

Extreme vs main stream – What’s the difference?

Do you know the difference between an extremist and a main stream candidate?  We’re indebted to Jose Farias for the answer.  He left this comment in response to an article in The Telegraph.

Today’s definition of an “extreme” candidate is:

  1. Being against high deficits;
  2. Being against a higher debt;
  3. Being for living within your means;
  4. Being for small government;
  5. Being for spending cuts;
  6. Being for lower taxes;
  7. Being for less regulations;
  8. Being for the traditional definition of marriage (between a man and a woman);
  9. Being against terrorism;
  10. Being for a strong military;
  11. Being for the implementation of the rule of law when it comes to illegal immigration;
  12. Being for individual freedom;
  13. Being for the Constitution as envisioned by the founding fathers;
  14. Being for free markets;
  15. Believing in the abilities of the American people;
  16. Holding on to the beliefs of our God, the Creator of Heavens and Earth;
  17. Believing on the right to bear arms;
  18. I could go on and on …

Today’s definition of “main stream” candidate is:

  1. Not holding on to any principles;
  2. Not saying what you mean, and not meaning what you say;
  3. Being for high deficits (they don’t say they are but actions speak louder than words);
  4. Being for a higher debt (ditto);
  5. Spending like drunk sailors;
  6. Being for more regulations;
  7. Being for homosexual marriage;
  8. Being for a weak military;
  9. Being against the fight against terrorists;
  10. Being for criminals when it comes to the execution of the law;
  11. Believing the individual can not take care of himself;
  12. Believing the government is to run everything, that is, believing in socialism;
  13. Being for the limitation of individual liberties in favor of government intrusion;
  14. Being against free markets;
  15. Being for Keynesian economics;
  16. Being in favor of gun control;
  17. Being against the right to exercise one’s religious beliefs;
  18. Being against God;
  19. Being against Christians;
  20. Being in favor of Muslims;
  21. I could go on and on …

Dog Attacks Child of CBR Staffer

Anna Cooper, 6-yr-old daughter of CBR staffer Don Cooper, was attacked by a wild dog last week, just outside her California home.  Anna was rescued by her mother Jennifer and her 14-yr-old brother Stephen and is going to be fine.  After getting the children inside the house, Jennifer shot the dog in the chest.  Don’t mess with this woman.  Media coverage:

Just one more reason why the Founders gave us the Second Amendment.  Who knows how many children the dog would have attacked or even killed before he could be caught again?
